Applications for the York Science Scholars Award are currently open to all eligible international students from around the world who want to study at York University Canada.

York University's Faculty of Science is eagerly awaiting applications for its prestigious York Science Scholars Award (YSSA) program. The Science Scholars program fosters the intellectual and professional development of high-achieving, motivated science students who join the Faculty in accordance with the Faculty's mission of educating global thinkers to advance knowledge and human progress. The York Science Scholars Award is an initiative of York University's Faculty of Science in Canada to attract brilliant minds to the study of science. The Science Scholars program fosters the intellectual and career development of high-achieving, passionate science students entering the Faculty, in keeping with the vision of preparing global thinkers to advance knowledge and human progress.
The York Science Scholars program awards $10,000 scholarships to up to 25 first-year students. This Faculty of Science award is in addition to any other York University or Faculty of Science admissions awards or scholarships.

Scholarship value

The scholarship benefits includes the following:

  • a $5,000 entrance scholarship
  • one-on-one mentorship from outstanding faculty members
  • a guaranteed $5,000 paid summer research position for the summer following a student’s first year, and
  • leading-edge research facilities.

Eligibility

Eligibile candidates must meet the following:

  • High academic achievement: Although YSSA applications are evaluated holistically, competitive applications typically have an A- (80% or higher) average.
    Passion for science and community service, as well as demonstrated leadership skills and a desire to make a difference in their communities, were required.

     

  • Candidates who have demonstrated involvement in activities other than academics, such as community service, sports, the arts, or hobbies.

  • Scores for English Language: Competitive English test scores for international students requiring an English language test for admission to York University are:

    • Band 1 YELT

    • iBT 100 for TOEFL

    • IELTS: 7.5

Application instructions

To begin, please send YSSA applications directly to the Faculty of Science, either digitally or in hard copy, by March 1, 2023, at 11:59 p.m.

  • Fill out the application form: You can submit your application through the online portal.
  • Create your personal statements as follows: Please carefully read the guidelines and select two topics about which you are most passionate.
  • Complete the following steps: Complete all of the remaining steps outlined in the official application portal.
