The program is exclusively designed for PhD studies, with a wide range of research areas including but not limited to Applied Statistics, AR/VR Technologies, Blockchain, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Privacy and Data Use, and Social and Economic Policy among others.

Scholarship Value:

Fellows are awarded a generous grant of $42,000 for one-time payment each academic year, covering tuition and fees for up to two years (four semesters). Additionally, fellows receive up to $5,000 for conference travel support and a paid visit to Facebook headquarters for the annual Fellowship Summit.


To be considered for the Facebook Fellowship Program, candidates must:

  • Be engaged in ongoing research in a full-time PhD program at an accredited university in any country, with work relevant to the specified research areas.
  • Be in their first or second year of their PhD program.
  • Demonstrate a strong research statement, publication record, and recommendations.
  • Minority group students who are under-represented in the technology sector may be evaluated for an Emerging Scholar Award.

Application Instructions:

Applications for the Facebook Fellowship Program open in August, with a deadline by September 20, 2024. Applicants must use their Facebook account to apply, submitting the following documents:

  • A resume or CV with contact information and relevant coursework.
  • A research summary (1-2 pages) highlighting the area of focus and its significance and applicability to Facebook.
  • Two letters of recommendation, with one being from an academic advisor.
